History
The sanitorium was opened in 1915. The hospital campus is rumored to be haunted by the various ghosts of its former occupants. The hospital was built to house tuberculosis patients. At capacity, it housed approximately 200 patients.
The Springfield Lake Sanatorium Cemetery on Briar Hill holds the remains of 246 men, women, and children.
In 1922, the Sunshine Cottage was added to house children stricken with TB.
The Springfield Sanitorium is now called the Edwin Shaw Hospital.
